Frequently Asked Questions
• • • •

While going through our customer e-mail and pulling out the most frequently-asked questions, we found that you had suggested an Internet glossary for our site. We're interested to know what else you would find useful or have a question about. Please send us your question -- we'll be happy to answer it!

Is there a minimum contract period?
There is no minimum contract needed to start hosting with ZeroLevity. As long as you host your site with us, you can pay for your services month-by-month. We do offer discounts for pre-payment of your services, but we will not ask you to sign a contract. If you pay for 6 months and want to cancel after 4, we will refund the remaining two months fees with no questions asked.

What is a domain name?
A domain name translates easily remembered names, such as www.zerolevity.com, into numerical IP addresses, such as 216.15.193.67, allowing for easier Internet use. Typing a registered domain name into the address bar of your Web browser will find the site associated with that domain with out having to know the IP address assigned to it.

Are there restrictions on who can register .com, .net, or .org?
No. There used to be restrictions that limited .com to commercial use, .net to network providers, and .org to non-profits and organizations that do not fit under the other categories. This restriction was lifted about 1997 because it was too difficult to verify the information. The only requirement is to pay the fee to get domains under these top-level domains. There are still restrictions for .edu and .gov.

How can I register a domain name?
You can register a domain name through us. You will first need to look up a domain name to see if it's already being used. If the domain name is not being used, you can use our online form to register it immediately. We will not charge you anything to register the domain name. We also do not pay the registration fee. You will be billed by Network Solutions directly for the use of the domain name.

Can I register my domain name through someone other than Network Solutions?
If you want to use a registrar other than Network Solutions, we ask that when doing so, you register your domain name using our primary and secondary name servers. This will make your site available much faster and avoid the headache of a domain name transfer.

Do you support FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions?
Yes, we do support FrontPage Server Extensions, however, we do NOT provide Technical Support for your use of FrontPage 98/2000 Software. If you are having problems using FrontPage, please view our Support Manuals or http://support.microsoft.com/directory/.

If I refer my friend to you and he signs up, do I get something for it?
If someone signs up for an account with ZeroLevity and lets us know at the time their order is placed that you had referred them to us, we will credit your account for your referral's first months hosting fees. For more information please read about our referral program.

What is shared hosting?
Virtual or shared web hosting is the business of housing and serving files for a website. Typically, an individual or small to mid-sized business cannot afford to independently obtain an extremely robust connection to the Internet for their Web presence. Shared hosting can provide you with the option to outsource your Internet requirements inexpensively. It allows you to share the cost of a fast Internet connection, giving you the ability to host your site on a powerful, professionally managed server at a low monthly cost with redundant connectivity and guaranteed uptime.

What does it mean to have a dedicated IP address?
Having a dedicated IP address means that your site can be reached through it's domain name or through it's IP address. We currently only offer dedicated IP addresses for our premium and ultimate accounts. There are a limited number of IP addresses in the world and that number is rapidly being depleted. Once the IP addresses are gone, they're gone. We minimize the number of IP addresses we use by assigning our standard accounts shared IP addresses.

Do you offer telnet access?
No. For security reasons, we do not offer telnet access to our web server.

How are you connected to the Internet?
We are connected directly to the Internet's top backbone connections through Cybercon's Internet Data Center. Cybercon has increased their network infrastructure multiple times within the last year. They currently have a full OC12 to AT&T, and full OC3 connections to Sprint, UUNet (MCI WorldCom), and Level(3) Communications.

What is your uptime guarantee?
Because of our direct backbone connections through Cybercon, we can guarantee a network uptime of 100% and that all our servers will have a 99% uptime average. For more information about our guarantee please review our entire uptime guarantee
